Ontario Provincial Bail Reform
Ontario has introduced measures to tighten its bail system and pursue unpaid bail debts using tools like liens and garnishments, complementing new federal bail rules aimed at repeat and violent offenders. Supporters say stricter bail improves public safety and accountability. Opponents, including some legal experts, question whether the changes reduce crime and warn of effects on the presumption of innocence and jail crowding. The measures are now in effect.
