Toronto Renoviction Licence Bylaw
Toronto's Rental Renovation Licence Bylaw requires landlords who need a unit vacant for major renovations to obtain a city licence, notify tenants, and provide plans and relocation or compensation, aiming to curb 'renovictions' that displace tenants and raise rents. Supporters say it deters bad-faith evictions and protects affordable units. Opponents, including some landlords, say added fees and paperwork delay legitimate repairs. The bylaw is in effect.
