Shadow Referendum Q7: Should the federal Senate be abolished?
Official Question 7 on Alberta's October 19, 2026 referendum ballot reads: "Do you support the Government of Alberta working with the governments of other willing provinces to amend the Canadian Constitution to abolish the unelected federal Senate?" This proposal mirrors the official ballot question. Supporters argue an unelected chamber has no place in a modern democracy. Opponents argue the Senate provides regional representation and sober second thought, and that abolition would require near-unanimous constitutional consent. Vote Support for Yes, Oppose for No — exactly as you would on the official ballot.
