Ontario Private Clinic Surgical Expansion
Ontario is expanding the number of surgeries and diagnostic procedures performed at privately operated clinics that are still paid for by OHIP, aiming to reduce hospital wait-lists for procedures such as cataract, hip and knee operations. Supporters say it shortens waits and uses existing capacity. Opponents worry it draws staff from public hospitals and could lead to added charges. The expansion continues under provincial policy.
