Official Question 1 on Alberta's October 19, 2026 referendum ballot reads: "Do you support the Government of Alberta taking increased control over immigration for the purposes of decreasing immigration to more sustainable levels, prioritizing economic migration and giving Albertans first priority on new employment opportunities?" This proposal mirrors the official ballot question so verified Albertans can register their position before the province votes. Supporters argue provincial control would better match immigration to Alberta's labour market and infrastructure capacity. Opponents argue immigration is constitutionally shared with Ottawa and that reduced immigration could worsen labour shortages. Vote Support for Yes, Oppose for No — exactly as you would on the official ballot.
