Shadow Referendum Q5: Should proof of citizenship be required to vote provincially?
Official Question 5 on Alberta's October 19, 2026 referendum ballot reads: "Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring individuals to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate, or citizenship card, to vote in an Alberta provincial election?" This proposal mirrors the official ballot question — and on Represent, this one is open to verified citizens only, the same standard the question itself proposes. Supporters argue citizenship proof protects election integrity. Opponents argue it adds barriers for eligible voters who lack ready documentation. Vote Support for Yes, Oppose for No — exactly as you would on the official ballot.

This question is for people who verified a government ID through Didit, our verification partner, with Alberta as the region on their ID. It takes ballots only from people who passed the Citizen check: a passport plus proof of address.
