MUNICIPAL · TORONTO ECONOMY OPENED JUL 18

Toronto's 2026 budget increases the property tax reduction for eligible small commercial properties to 20 percent, up from 15 percent, lowering tax bills for tens of thousands of small businesses. Supporters say it helps neighbourhood shops facing high costs. Opponents note the forgone revenue must be recovered elsewhere in the budget. The measure was adopted by council.
