Ontario Supervised Consumption Site Defunding
PROVINCIAL · ONTARIO

OPENED JUL 18
Ontario has ended provincial funding for supervised drug consumption sites, where people use pre-obtained drugs under supervision, replacing them with Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) hubs focused on treatment and housing, and has barred new sites from opening. Supporters say resources should fund recovery, not drug use. Opponents, including many clinicians, warn removing supervised sites will increase overdoses and public drug use. Closures proceeded through 2026.
