Ontario Ring of Fire Development
The Ring of Fire is a mineral-rich region in Ontario's far north containing metals used in batteries and electronics. Provincial legislation creates 'special economic zones' to speed mining and road approvals there. Supporters cite jobs and a domestic critical-minerals supply. Opponents, including some First Nations, cite treaty rights, consultation and effects on wetlands that store carbon. Approvals and legal questions are ongoing.
